COMMUNITY SOLAR WITH SEATTLE CITY LIGHT

Northwest SEED is supporting Seattle City Light  in developing an innovative Community Solar Program that provides economies of scale, optimal solar siting, and lower up-front costs for participants.

Enrollment in the first project launches on the solstice June 21st. This project will bring together hundreds of City Light customers to provide three new picnic shelters at Jefferson Park, with roofs made of solar electric panels.

Residential and business customers who choose to enroll will reap many rewards:

  • Electricity generated by the project will be credited back to participating customers’ power bills on an annual basis for the next nine years. (The actual electricity will be used and paid for at Jefferson Park, but participants will receive the value of the electricity produced.)
  • Enrollee names will become a permanent part of the Community Solar legacy at Jefferson Park.
  • Enrollees will have a chance to champion locally grown energy while creating useful picnic shelters for years to come.

All interested customers can download an application from the Seattle City Light website or call 206-684-3800 to request an application by mail. Customers are also encouraged to attend one of our community workshops to learn more and get an application in person. To enroll, Seattle City Light will need a signed application and a one-time $600 enrollment fee.

Why Community Solar?

Sun for Everyone! Even if you live in the shade, or rent your home, you can contribute to an installation in the sun!
Lower costs: You don't have to buy a whole system at once; you can go solar in bite-sized purchases!
How does Seattle City Light's Program work?

Seattle City Light will build a 24 kilowatt system and enroll customers on a voluntary basis. Participation will be open to all Seattle city Light customers on a first come, first served basis.

What's the benefit?

Participants will receive credit for the power produced by their "share" of a system as well as the WA State Production Incentive for Community Solar systems. Participants reap these benefits, while knowing that they are supporting clean, local solar power and new parks picnic shelters!

Where can I sign up?

Download your application from Seattle City Light’s Community Solar page. Or attend a community workshop to learn more.
