COMMUNITY SOLAR WITH SEATTLE
CITY LIGHT
Seattle City Light won funding from the US Department
of Energy's Solar America Cities Initiative to develop
a community solar program for City Light customers.
Northwest SEED is working in partnership with City
Light, helping to design a Community Solar Program
that provides economies of scale, optimal solar siting,
and lower up-front costs for participants.
City Light will use the Department
of Energy funds to build the first installation. As
customers enroll, or subscribe to get energy from
the project, these revenues will be used as capital
for future installations. Thus the Community Solar
program will operate as a revolving fund creating
future installations and growing solar energy access
and use in Seattle.
Why
Community Solar?
Sun for Everyone!
Even if you live in the shade, or rent your home,
you can contribute to an installation in the sun!
Lower costs: You don't have
to buy a whole system at once; you can go solar in
bite-sized purchases!
Economies of Scale: Community
Solar installations tend to be larger than the typical
system on a home. By building more kilowatts in one
installation, communities keep the project cost per
kilowatt low!
How
will Seattle City Light's Program work?
Seattle City Light will build a 30 - 60 kilowatt system
and enroll customers on a voluntary basis. Participation
will be open to all Seattle city Light customers on
a first come, first served basis.
What's
the benefit?
Participants will recieve credit for the power produced
by their "share" of a system as well as
the WA State Production Incentive for Community Solar
systems. Participants reap these benefits, while knowing
that they are supporting clean, local solar power!
Where
can I sign up?
Seattle City Light's first information session will
be held September 18, 2010. For more information and
